Chandler, Arizona-- It was quite the way to end what was an unforgettable season for the Coyotes Softball squad as they squashed the visiting Scottsdale Community College Fighting Artichokes in both games, 13-10 and 7-0.
This past year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on everyone, especially college sports. Head Coach Bry Norris was unsure if her team would even be able to compete this year due to the COVID complications, but through all the uncertainty and through having to deal with all of the obstacles the pandemic threw at them, the Lady Coyotes persevered and were able to end their regular season on a high note.
The large and supportive crowd on hand at Chandler Gilbert Community College watched Jillian Lagasca go 3-5 with two RBI and Andrea Santillan go 1-2 with two RBI as well. Both Lagasca and Santillan each had a stolen base to lead the Coyotes to victory.
In the second game, the Coyotes 7-0 skunked the visiting team as they were powered by a home run from Liana Ohi and two RBI from Anissa Corrales. Daniella Hinojos pitched a gem on the mound giving up only six hits, no runs at all and even struck out two batters. An incredible defensive effort from the Coyote collective had Hinojos back the entire game.
The Coyotes record will finish at 14-20 and will play in the ACCAC playoffs Friday at Phoenix College.
