Scottsdale Community College built a steady lead through three quarters and held off a late Chandler-Gilbert Community College surge for a 71–63 win Wednesday night (Jan. 28) at the Coyote Center.

Game flow
Scottsdale controlled the tempo early, winning each of the first three periods: 15–10 after the first, 31–24 at halftime, and 49–34 heading into the fourth. Chandler-Gilbert made its biggest push in the final 10 minutes, outscoring Scottsdale 29–22, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Scottsdale closed out the eight-point victory.

Chandler-Gilbert's leaders
Despite the loss, Makailyn Horsley delivered the standout performance of the night, finishing with 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three, and a perfect 6-of-6 at the line, plus 7 rebounds and 5 steals in 40 minutes.

Addyson Horsley added 15 points and 6 assists, doing most of her scoring at the stripe (13-of-17 free throws).  Off the bench, Melanie Ortiz provided a lift with 8 points on 2-of-4 shooting and 4-of-4 free throws, along with 5 rebounds.

Team numbers that shaped the result
Chandler-Gilbert's offense had to grind: the Coyotes shot 15-of-58 (25.9%) overall and 7-of-23 (30.4%) from three, though they kept themselves in it by getting to the line frequently (26-of-33, 78.8%). Turnovers were a major hurdle—21 giveaways—even as Chandler-Gilbert generated activity defensively with 12 steals.
